Following the formal business of our Annual General Meeting our retiring President Hazel Kent, talked about her recent travels to Alaska and Canada. Her partner, Dave Goss, assisted her by projecting a wonderful array of photographs of their journey via cruise liner and motor caravan.,
We saw amazing scenes of mountains, lakes, rivers, glaciers, waterfalls, hot springs and skywalks along with pictures of local wildlife.
In Banff they visited a museum that had an area dedicated to pioneering women of the past who came from many different countries to explore the extremely challenging terrain wearing their long skirts! None of the modern kit designed to provide free movement and safety for them!
Still in Banff they visited the highest restaurant in Canada. A wooden building with very basic facilities perched on top of a mountain with spectacular views. As they were leaving the Manager ran after them and asked them to wait a moment at which point Dave handed him his mobile phone to capture on video the very special moment when he surprised Hazel by asking her to marry him! Their wedding will be in October this year. We wish them well.
Hazel has completed a very successful maximum term of three years as President that included keeping the Branch going and providing support for members in the difficult circumstances brought about by Covid.
We wish our newly elected President Deborah James all the very best for her term in office. Why not give our meetings a try. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at the newly refurbished and very comfortable Sulhamstead Village Hall.
